Remember when being hopeful was the reality that perforated our daily decisions: is this the right shirt to wear? Should I eat this for lunch today? What vinyl should play on repeat for the entire, sleepy afternoon? Now, fast forward to today. Would you still make those same decisions? Or, have you already forgotten?

BillyTheKid and Azarias’ second album, Retroist Futurisms, takes us back to the anticipation of the past,while tastefully highlighting the artists that would later pioneer the way.

In all the research, excavation, and adornment of forgotten artists - from sentiments to sound progression - Retroist Futurisms not only magnifies one of the fundamental pillars of Hip-Hop (D.I.T.C.), but it also links us to a time where we dreamed of the future: meta.

Made with love and hate in apartments across Chicago, Retroist Futurisms sonically Venn Diagrams past, present, and future by balancing soothing instrumentals, curated samples, and classic, yet modernized, boom-bap. The 13-tracked album gives thirty-two and a half minutes of gentle reminders to pay homage, remember your history, and always juggle your tenses.
